Executive summary

Sweden is the most visited country among the Nordic nations, with five million international arrivals in 2011. In the same year, the Travel and Tourism Competitive Index (TTCI) ranked Sweden as the world’s fifth most attractive destination for travel and tourism industry development. The Swedish travel and tourism industry contributed 2.8% to national GDP in 2011, and directly accounted for 1.7% of the country’s total employment. Furthermore, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), investments in Swedish travel and tourism valued SEK17.9 billion (US$2.5 billion) in 2011, accounting for 2.8% of total national investments. During the review period (2007–2011), the total number of trips undertaken by residents registered a CAGR of 4.14%.
