Key highlights
During the review period, the value of global cement consumption grew at a CAGR of 10.32%, led by the Asia-Pacific region in terms of both growth and size. The region recorded the highest CAGR of 15.52% during the review period, and valued US$121.4 billion in 2010, equal to 69.7% of global cement consumption. With the global economic crisis affecting the majority of countries, regions such as North America, Europe and the Middle East registered significantly decreased cement consumption due to reduced construction activity. With the exception of Asia-Pacific, South America, with Brazil as largest country, was the only other region to register double-digit growth during the review period. However, by 2010, the majority of governments across the globe had introduced substantial stimulus packages as counter measures designed to revive economic growth. Consequently, all regions experienced growth in cement consumption value in 2010. WMI expects the value of global cement consumption to record a CAGR of 12.60% over the forecast period, led by South America with a CAGR of 14.99%.
