How do I find data?
Timetric gives you the power to find data, view it in a graph and download it. But how do you find the series you want? There are four ways to access series - search, or navigate by topic, data source or country. Each way starts on the public data homepage and each has advantages and disadvantages. Frequent users will quickly learn which is best for each case.
Search
This allows you to search our entire database at once! If we have the series then you will be able to find it. This works brilliantly if you know the code attached to a series by the producer of that series - you might have seen it in a press release or publication. For example, the ONS gives each series a four letter code and YBEZ is the UK GDP figure. Type that into the search box and up comes the series.
However, vague searches can lead to very long lists of results. This might be fun if you are browsing to see what data we have. (For example, typing ‘water’ offers up over 30,000 series - for better or worse!)

But it can also be frustrating - as the search for ‘France GDP’ shows, among the many results, none is the headline GDP! Try inserting keywords to narrow the search. Hey presto! Nice relevant results just by adding ‘volumes’ to the search string.

You can also experiment with ‘tags’.
Also take note of a few more search options down the right hand side of the page. Firstly, you can restrict the values returned by the search, only have recently updated data and sort the list by value. There is also the list of the most common tags for your search which can be clicked on.

Topic navigation
This will give you a list of all the topics. ‘A topic?’ I hear you say. They are simply a collection of related, frequently sought series put together in one place for easy comparison. Learn more about topics and how to use them here.Clicking
Unfortunately, however, we have only so many monkeys at our type writers hence a limited number of topics. We have done our best to cover the main indicators. If you feel that we have missed out something important leave us some feedback and we will see what we can do!
