Finding data on Timetric¶
Searching¶
When you log into Timetric, the first thing you see is your dashboard.
Any series you’re watching appear in here. Up in the top right hand corner, though, there’s a search box; if you type something in there and hit “Search”, then you get back a page of search results...
Here, we’ve searched for “bond”, and sure enough, we’ve got back a page of information about bond prices. One of the major providers of bond price information is a form called Moody’s; let’s say, for whatever reason, that you’re not interested in what they have to say. We can exclude those results: type “bond -Moody” into the search box and hit the search button.
Note
To match an exact phrase in your search, put it in quotes; “income tax”, say, to avoid getting back results including things like “Income from taxation...”
Finding by tag¶
You can filter the search results by specific tags, too. When you upload data to Timetric, you can give a list of tags - categories, more or less - to help you organise your data; we’ve done the same with the data we’ve loaded into the system.
We show these in search results. So, under each of the search results, there’s a list of tags (in light grey); a lot of the results here come from the UK’s National Statistics dataset, so we tagged them “national statistics” when we uploaded them. Here’s what you get if you click on that:
Note
You also get here if you click on a tag on a series’s page.
You can now drill down within these series. There’s a list of the most common tags used alongside “national statistics” up the top: click on one of those, say “monthly”, and you’ll filter out any series which aren’t tagged with both of these tags.
Note
Click on the cross next to a tag to remove it from the set of tags you’re filtering by.
And you can now search for specific phrases within this set of series, too. Enter something into the search box (we’ve searched for “south”) and hit “Search these series”:
Once you’ve found the series you’re looking for, you can save them to your dashboard; they’ll then be one click away the next time you come back to the site.
